What's new in 0.1.2

Sep 12, 2026

New

  • Verified websites: a blue check next to the address, on the tab and in site info for sites that are the real thing; purple badge for government and political sites. Click the lock for certificate details.
  • Built-in media player: play downloaded videos and music in Caspian, with subtitles, speed, fullscreen and a floating picture-in-picture window. HLS and DASH stream links open in the player.
  • Torrents: magnet links and .torrent files download inside Downloads, and can be played while they are still arriving. If you have a torrent client already, Caspian hands off to it.
  • Family: parent PIN, category blocking, allow/block lists, SafeSearch, daily time limits and allowed hours.
  • Screenshots: capture the visible page or the whole page, copy or save.
  • Per-site content switches (JavaScript, images, autoplay, sound) in the site info popover.
  • Caspian's own error pages, page dialogs and downloads sheet.
  • Tab audio indicator with click-to-mute (Shift+click pauses); tab search; hover previews with memory use; DevTools dock/undock; split view menu; private windows; history with recently closed tabs.
  • Video playback: H.264/AAC codecs and Widevine, so YouTube, Twitch and streaming services work.

Fixed

  • Ad blocking now hides ad boxes reliably and no longer burns CPU on ad-heavy sites; pop-up guard with an address-bar indicator.
  • Rendering flicker and the intermittent startup crash.
  • Updates install silently in the background; a small "Updating Caspian" window shows progress.
  • Esc leaves full screen. Links from other apps open in Caspian even after a reinstall.

Windows

Run the installer. It sets up per-user, offers to become the default browser, and updates itself from then on.

macOS

Open the .dmg and drag Caspian to Applications. Universal build for Apple silicon and Intel; Caspian asks to be the default on first run.

Linux

Make the AppImage executable and run it. It works on any current distro with no packages to install.

Builds are signed and their SHA-256 is published with each release. Manifests: stable/latest.json
